Had a good sleep! Was so tired and very grateful to be in a hut, warm and with food in my tummy.
Did very little today – quite amazing how a whole day can pass. It has rained all day with some thunder and lightning. The most exciting thing to happen was to have a jet boat go by. It then came to shore – looking for kayakers who were supposed to be at McKerrow Hut. Lucky for us as it meant Mike could get to confirm with the jet boat that we were here and not at McKerrow as we had booked. So they will pick us up tomorrow. That means no walk along the Demon trail and that other horrible part between McKerrow and Lake Alabaster.
To occupy my time I read a Reader’s Digest story about a search and rescue dog call Sam. Very interesting. And there was lots of flipping through ancient National Geographic magazines. You can tell that the Demon Hut is a place that you may have to spend some time add due to the weather – hence the reading material. If I ever go back, I will take in some books or magazines to add to the eclectic collection! One of the magazines was from the early 1970’s and had an article about a tribe in Papua New Guinea and the rituals they have around weddings. They put on these plays and wear elaborate masks and costumes. Well they did in the 70’s. Wonder if they still do?
I took some photos of the hut and some of Mike with his umbrella, which still I find amusing – tramping with an umbrella. Though he did prove it was very useful. He tried fishing, but gave up pretty quickly, it was too miserable, even for fishing.
