Photos from our short break in Hanmer Springs

Garage on Cheltehnam Street in Hanmer

Garage on Cheltehnam Street in Hanmer

I took a lot of photos while I was in Hanmer Springs this weekend. Some of them made it my daily photo blog, some of them made it to Facebook, and these photos have made it to this blog. The reason why they are here – they are photos I like for one reason or another, but don’t fit onto my photo blog, and I don’t want to bore my friends on Facebook with photos of garages. This is my self-indulgent photography opportunity blog, where I can post up photos I like and want to look back on at some point in time.

I’ve posted these two photos, as I was not sure which one I liked. The photos were taken on the arboretum walk you can do in Hanmer. I stopped to take the photos and my other half looked at me and suggested I ‘come over here’. And of-course he was right (as he frequently is on all manner of subjects). I still can’t decide which photo I like the best. In time, I guess I will come back and go – it’s obvious which one’s the winner.

Trees in the Woodland Walk

I love the starkness of these trees. Now that I think about it, this photo would look good black and white.

And, with the magic of Photoshop, voilà, a black and white version of the photo with a few touch ups (burned the foreground a little).

These two photos are examples of my recent experimentation with changing the white balance on my camera. I started doing this more after getting into a conversation with another photographer.

The photo on the left is auto white balance with the mode set to ‘vivid’. The photo on the right, is also ‘vivid’ but the white balance was set to ‘shade’. I can’t recall if I dropped the exposure – which is something I have been doing a lot to get a richer look.

In camera, I preferred the richer photo on the right, but now looking at them side by side, I can’t decide which one I like best.

This photo was definitely taken using the ‘shade’ white balance.

Hanmer forest. A wonderful place to spend an hour or two. That’s my guy, striding off into the distance (after being told to ‘keep on walking please’). He’s very patient about my photography and my need to get perspective into my shots with some human interest as well.

I never tire of taking photos of leaves in Autumn. Well, actually, any time of year is a good time to capture a nicely lit leaf.

Not sure what these are. They were growing on the road we found after we walked down the back way from Conical Hill. Very pretty whatever they are. I also love photographing brightly coloured berries.

The back of Hanmer Springs – Conical Hill is to the right of this photo.

Well, that’s the end of my photos. It didn’t take too long to do this. So who knows, it might just become a regular thing! I’m even now thinking about back dating some blog posts I’ve been meaning to do.
