I love taking photos, I’m rather prolific too. My Father was good at a lot of things, but was simply the worst photographer. Perhaps that’s what compelled me to beg for a camera at 10 years of age (someone had to get people’s feet in a shot). It was a Christmas present and oh what joy, what happiness, and I still have the photos from that time, though the camera is long gone.
I ventured into the confusing and expensive world of film SLRs in my 20′s even signing up for two photography courses in one year. One of my photos even made it to an exhibition, which was pretty cool (I even got a taste of photography snobbery when some old pros told me they thought the winning shot was clichéd and my work was much better). Clichés are not something I try to avoid in my photos, I just shoot what I like, too bad if it’s not original. So long as it resonates with me I am happy.
For some unknown reason I put the camera down for a long time. It was probably the expense. I was very late to the digital camera revolution, but am now making up for it. For the last few years, I have been taking photos every couple of days and never tire of it. It is something I do for me, and feel compelled to do. The fact that people get some enjoyment out of my photos is just the icing on top.
